Sunshine's Book Collection

My place to show everyone the books that I currently own on my shelf.

This will only include the books that I find not to be too "childish" like Diary of a Whimpy kid, I will also include the specific versions I own, which will have diferent titles because I am brazilian.

The way out

Opinions on the books:

My personal opinion, don't expect anything professional. I read most of these book a good long while ago so I won't write some of them because I don't remember what I thought at the moment.

The Illiad, Homer

It truly earned it's place as one of the greatest epic poems of all time, a very interesting and captivating story, even if it was a bit hard to read and understand at times, but that's probably on me, haha.

The Odyssey, Homer

By far one of the greatest books I've read, I found it a great way for me to start diving deeper into ancient greece and greek mythology, but I don't think I could properly describe how good it is.

The Metamorphosis and The Verdict, Kafka

An interesting metaphor for social isolation and how society (Gregor's family) treats him differently simply because he underwent the transformation into an insect. There are many ways one can interpret this story, but I personally see it as a critique to how society will simply ignore and mistreat those who, for any reason, become unable to work or need to stop being productive in order to rest even for just a moment.

I don't really remember much of The Verdict, it was a very short quick paced story that I didn't really understand enought to form a proper opinion. Apologies.

White Nights, Fyodor Dostoyevsky

This book moved me, it took me a few days to completely understand this book and have it click for me. I will not be delving deeper in order to avoid spoilers, but this is a book that I will surely never forget.

The Raven, Edgar Allan Poe

, I don't really have much more to say, a good poem from a great author, a staple of classic gothic literature that did live up to my expectations and the reviews I have read about it.

Murder on The Orient Express, Agatha Cristie

A very good book with a definitely captivating story. Even though I'm not a big fan of books in this style, I recognise that it is most definitely wonderful.

Antigone, Sophocles

I found it very interesting, even though it is considerably short, definetely a good entry point for those interested in greek plays or just ancient greece in general. Unlike what I experienced with The Illiad and The Odyssey, Antigone was actually relatively easy to read and understand.

The Hound of The Baskervilles, Arthur Conan Doyle

This is one of the ones that I can't really remember most of it, but I don't take it as a sign that the book is bad or anything like that, I'm just not that big of a fan of Sherlock Holmes. It's a good book, don't get me wrong, but it's not really my cup of tea.

Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Robert Louis Stevenson

One of the best books I've read in the recent times. An interesting view on the duality of man and how we need to find balance between our virtues and vices, at least to my interpretation.

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

A very interesting story, It was very captivating character development and interesting characters, truly the masterpiece that I heard it was.

To be Started

It will take a while for my next reading because my edition of Antigone (My last book) is mostly just supporting texts and translation notes, which I still plan on reading.
